Our Sixth Season has come to a close, and it's time to look back on the year and see what stood out to the dancers. Congrats to Emily on her promotion to Company Artist for the 2018/19 Season!

Q. Pick one word to describe this season overall. Why?

A. It's hard to wrap up the 2017/18 Season in one word, but persistent comes to mind for me. This season was long and challenging, but by God's faithfulness we were persistent in accomplishing the mission He had for us during this year.

Q. What was your favorite moment onstage?

A. One of my favorite moments onstage was during our performance of Shades of Refrain at Trinity Christian College. The space we were performing in was a black box theatre, and the audience was up close and personal. To be able to see immediate reactions is something we as dancers do not typically get the pleasure of.

Q. Looking back, would you say that you learned something new about yourself or found yourself stretched out of your comfort zone?

A. I've continued to learn this season that growth is a process. It doesn't happen overnight, and it takes time for change to be physically evident.

Q. Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?

A. Jeremiah 1:5-10 has been on my mind lately.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Then said I: “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” But the LORD said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the LORD. Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.”

We doubt our impact because of our weakness, but God empowers us to accomplish His will, and He goes with us and before us.

Q. What are you up to this summer?

A. This summer I will be staying in the Chicago area as an RA for Ballet 5:8's Summer Intensive.
