Libby Dennen: 2018/19 Season Reflections

Our Seventh Season has come to a close, and it's time to look back on the year and see what stood out to the dancers. Congrats to Libby on her promotion to Company Artist for the 2019/20 Season!

Q. Pick one word to describe this season overall. Why?

A. Humbling. This might have been my word for last year too, but it's been even more true this past season. Especially in the Spring it felt like with each show, more and more obstacles were placed in our path. And each time, without fail, God provided. He used every difficulty, every failure, every weakness, to minister, to teach, and to love. It was humbling to have to constantly be turning to Him. But comforting to know He was always there. Yes, it made for a hard season. But also a powerful one.

Q. What was your favorite moment onstage?

A. Our performance of All God's Children at the Atlanta Missions. It was in a small, oddly shaped room with no wings and the audience was so close it felt like they were on stage. Half of the audience were children and when we started dancing their eyes lit up. Some of them were so excited they were basically laughing. One little girl clapped every time our feet left the ground. Every single one was this little ball of pure, contagious joy. By far my favorite performance of that ballet.

Q. Looking back, would you say that you learned something new about yourself or found yourself stretched out of your comfort zone?

A. Every year I'm stretched and pushed out of my comfort zone. This season was no different. It never gets easier, or less uncomfortable. But how else would we grow?

Q. Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?

A. This year I was inspired a lot by the people around me. There have been times where I would recite a Bible verse or something. But this season, on all those hard, tired days, I was most encouraged looking to those around me. Knowing we were all in the same, worn out boat, yet still picking each other up and encouraging one another.

Q. What are you up to this summer?

A. I'll be attending Alonzo King LINES Ballet summer intensive in June, and getting certified in PBT in July. As well as attending lots of weddings!
