Olivia Kruse: 2017/18 Season Reflections

Our Sixth Season has come to a close, and it's time to look back on the year and see what stood out to the dancers.

Q. Pick one word to describe this season overall. Why?

A. It’s so hard to pick only one word to describe this wonderful season! I think adventurous best describes this 2017-18 season. We went on a choreographic adventure, telling multiple stories, embodying a wide range of emotions, and bringing diverse musical scores to life. We also went on numerous traveling adventures as a company, touring all over the country spreading the mission of Ballet 5:8 as we went.

Q. What was your favorite moment onstage?

A. My favorite moment on stage occurred in Shades of Refrain. There's a moment in the ballet when the whole corps de ballet dances a beautiful phrase of choreography in unison. I really felt the camaraderie of my fellow dancers onstage.

Q. Looking back, would you say that you learned something new about yourself or found yourself stretched out of your comfort zone?

A. This season was a beautiful reminder of the teamwork required in dance. Finding strength in my fellow dancers' talents and giving my personal best created such an amazing work environment. There's something magical when every single person in the studio is humbly and selflessly giving all of their talents to the good of the company as a whole.

Q. Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?

A. "Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love." - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Q. What are you up to this summer?

A. This summer, I am heading home to Fort Wayne, IN and teaching at my home studio, Project Ballet. I am also working as a camp counselor at the YMCA's summer camp. I'm looking forward to time with family and enjoying the summer weather outside!
