Olivia Kruse: 2018/19 Season Reflections

Our Seventh Season has come to a close, and it's time to look back on the year and see what stood out to the dancers.

Q. Pick one word to describe this season overall. Why?

A. Courageous. This season I have been so inspired by the tenacity of my fellow dancers. As a team, we have pushed to new bounds technically and artistically. We have bared our souls on the stage and have overcome obstacles thrown our way. This season has been a testament to God's goodness. I have been reminded that with His strength, anything is possible.

Q. What was your favorite moment onstage?

A. One performance that really has a special place in my heart happened on our tour to Atlanta. Having the opportunity to perform at the Atlanta Women's Homeless Shelter really moved me. It was such an intimate performance. From talking with the women and their children after the show, most of them said it was their first time seeing a ballet. It was beautiful to hear what they took away from each piece. And the joy the kids had dancing with us after the show will be burned in my memory forever. It was amazing to see how dance can connect people on and off the stage.

Q. Looking back, would you say that you learned something new about yourself or found yourself stretched out of your comfort zone?

A. This season I learned how to truly dance in the present moment. I focused on being patient with myself while still pushing to move faster, bigger, grander. And by dancing intentionally in the present moment, I enjoyed and relished in each attempt to tell a God-glorifying story to the audience.

Q. Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?

A. We need not to strive for perfection, but we must always strive for progress.

Q. What are you up to this summer?

A. I'll be spending my summer with family and friends while teaching at Ballet 5:8 and Project Ballet's summer intensives!
