Company Artist Laura Schlatter is in her third season with Ballet 5:8 as a Company Artist. During the Fall Season, she danced the soloist role in Julianna Slager's Summer from Four Seasons of the Soul, as a demi-soloist in Winter also from Four Seasons, and in Slager's Mi Familia and in Preston Miller's And Mercy.
Q. What moment in the Fall Season stands out to you?
A. So much has happened that it's taking me a while to recollect something that stands out! I think that right at the beginning of it all working with Preston Miller was something that all of us will remember as a huge growth process for the company. Just getting the chance to work with someone who's been all over the dance world was an inspiration. Thank you, Preston!
Q. What repertoire challenged you the most/how did you see yourself grow?
A. Performing the Summer soloist in Four Seasons of the Soul will always- ALWAYS- be a challenge for me! Even when I'm old, broken and retired I will look back and possibly have a heart attack thinking of how much stamina was used to get through the whole 9 minutes!
Q. Funniest moment?
A. The bus ride from Chicago to Oklahoma and Texas. Let's just say it was long, space to stretch was limited, and...put a group of artistic minds on a bus together and you don't know what will happen!
Q. What is one thing that you’re looking forward to over the holidays?
A. God has provided in so many ways this past year and one thing I am extremely excited about is the gift He has given to travel to Belize over our Christmas break! I will be there working with my Aunt for the Belizean International Symposium on Education (BISE). God is so good!
