It is our pleasure to welcome Beth Patterson to Ballet 5:8 as a Company Artist for the 2016-2017 Season. Here on the blog, we are asking each of the new dancers a few questions so we can get to know them ahead of the upcoming season.
Q. Where will you be coming to Ballet 5:8 from? Where are you from originally?
A. I'm moving here from New York. I've lived there for three years where I studied at SLK ballet in Manhattan. I'm originally from San Antonio, Texas.
Q. What attracted you to Ballet 5:8?
A. The message, the outreach and the positive welcoming environment.
Q. Why do you dance?
A. It is the best way I know to express myself. It is one of the ways I choose to glorify God by using the gifts that he gave me. Dance lets me express things in ways that words would never allow and what better message than God's grace.
Q. What is something you enjoy about Chicago or think you’ll enjoy about Chicago?
A. I've heard Chicago is like a small New York. I'm excited to explore a new city with different museums and places to see. I'm also excited to live in the quiet suburbs with more space and a different energy.
Q. What is one thing people will be surprised to learn about you?
A. I love to play the ukulele in my free time. I taught myself a few years ago.
Q. What are you most looking forward to about this performing season?
A. I'm looking forward to learning the new repertoire and performing with the other dancers.
