It is our pleasure to welcome Libby Dennen to Ballet 5:8 as a Company Apprentice for the 2017-2018 Season. We've asked each of the new dancers a few questions so we can get to know them before the season begins.
Q. Where will you be coming to Ballet 5:8 from? Where are you from originally?
A. I have actually been a part of Ballet 5:8 from the very beginning. I grew up training in the Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts and just recently graduated from the Trainee Program.
Q. Why do you dance?
A. I dance because communicating is hard. As an artist, I want to share something with people - whether that's a story, an emotion, or maybe a memory - that is not always easy to put into words. With ballet, there can be a 12 minute piece that speaks one word, or one gesture that tells an entire story.
Q. What is something you enjoy about Chicago or think you’ll enjoy about Chicago?
A. I think what I love most about it is how much there is to see and do. I've lived here my whole life and still, every time I go into the city, I see a piece of it I haven't seen before.
Q. What is one thing people will be surprised to learn about you?
A. I was a huge tomboy when I was little.
Q. What are you most looking forward to about the coming performance season?
A. I'm most excited about learning the new ballets for the Compass program. I love learning new choreography and it's always fun to see the crazy ideas Mrs. Julianna comes up with.
