It is our pleasure to welcome Olivia Kruse to Ballet 5:8 as a Company Artist for the 2017-2018 Season. We've asked each of the new dancers a few questions so we can get to know them before the season begins.
Q. Where will you be coming to Ballet 5:8 from? Where are you from originally?
A. I am coming to Ballet 5:8 from Salt Lake City, Utah. I have been attending the University of Utah’s School of Dance for the past three years. I will actually be finishing my degrees (BFA in Ballet and BS in Psychology) this coming year through correspondence online! I am originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Q. What attracted you to Ballet 5:8?
A. Ballet 5:8’s mission really attracted me to the company. I love how they use dance to spread joy and spark conversation. Seeing how passionate Ballet 5:8 is about dance made me want to be a part of the company and their creative process.
Q. Why do you dance?
A. I feel at home when I dance, like somehow I’m more myself. I don’t know what I’d do without it. I love the constant strive for grace, the determination it takes to execute steps correctly, and the relationship dance has with music. The freedom and abandon dance gives me is unlike any other kind of expression.
Q. What is something you enjoy about Chicago or think you’ll enjoy about Chicago?
A. I’m excited to explore Chicago. I’m a big musical theatre fan, so I hope to be able to see some great musicals in the city.
Q. What is one thing people will be surprised to learn about you?
A. I have a twin brother! He’s my best friend.
Q. What are you most looking forward to about the coming performance season?
A. I can’t wait to learn the choreography for this coming season. I think I’m most looking forward to working in the studio with the other dancers and connecting with the audience.
