Meet Abi Gray. Abi will be joining Ballet 5:8 in the fall as a trainee. Our trainees will join the Ballet 5:8 company daily for technique classes and rehearsals, and will perform alongside the company as they spend one to three years in the final leg of their training as professional dancers. We are so blessed and excited to have this talented young lady join the ministry!

Where are you from, and how long have you lived in Chicago?

I was born in Portland, Oregon. We moved to Bolivia when I was five years old, and we lived there for fourteen years. I came to Chicago this past December.

When did you start dancing? What has kept you going to get where you are now?

I started dancing when I was four years old with tap and creative dance, took a three year break when my  family and I moved to Bolivia, and continued to dance from age eight to this day.

The feelings I get, the relationships I build, the people I move and entertain, and the way I understand myself more through dancing have pushed me to continue dancing and to never give up even when I feel like I can't do it anymore. Although it’s been hard at times, I’m glad I pursued dance. I can see how God gave me the strength to continue and assured me that this is the way He wants me to go.

What part of the ministry of Ballet 5:8 are you most excited or passionate about?

I am most excited about seeing in what ways God will use dance for his glory and how He will touch people’s hearts through it.

I am passionate about how I can share the gospel through untraditional means and show God’s love and grace to people who wouldn’t normally be open to hearing it.
