Ballet 5:8's Emerging Choreographer’s Workshop: Creating in His Image is an opportunity for dancers ages 15-25 to learn about choreographic theory and mechanics, explore Ballet 5:8’s commitment to innovative storytelling and breathtaking dance, and gain hands-on experience by setting work during Ballet 5:8’s Summer Intensive.

Choreographers will participate in ballet, modern, composition and improv classes throughout the week. Each choreographer will also work closely with Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager and Ballet 5:8 staff members to create a concept, spatial design and movement vocabulary for their original work. Choreographers will spend time with a team of dancers each day, working on their piece and refining the movement. There will be nightly showings of the works in progress, culminating with a showcase of the final work at the end of the week. Choreographers will receive mentoring and feedback throughout the process as they learn and refine choreographic skills, and hone their choreographic voice.
