Ballet 5:8’s workshop will include a ballet technique class (about 75 minutes) followed by a mini seminar and Q&A session designed especially for student dancers. Students are all welcome to bring their own questions! The mini-seminar will touch on topics related to dance training and professional dance such as stretching/strengthening at home, pointe work and foot care for pointe work, nutrition and injury prevention, and pursuing dance as a career.
The workshop will be taught by Ballet 5:8 professional dancer Summer Smith. Summer completed her degree in dance and painting at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before joining Ballet 5:8 in 2014. Summer is a well-rounded artist with a versatile background ranging from classical ballet to jazz, modern and contemporary and dances a wide variety of roles with Ballet 5:8. In addition to performing regularly, Summer teaches a variety of dance classes at Ballet 5:8’s school in Chicago and also works with the production department at Ballet 5:8, which creates props and sets for new ballets.
