In March, 2017, the full-length premiere of Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Slager's Scarlet will give audiences a fresh look and response to Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic novel The Scarlet Letter. The ballet will follow the iconic Hester, a young woman caught in adultery, as she struggles to find peace and restoration in the midst of a hypocritical and harsh early-American Puritan society. The ballet imagines the deep internal struggle that led Hester to the choices she makes and brings into question the hypocrisy that dwells within religious society, asking the viewer to consider how we all, in our own way, and are in need of forgiveness and redemption.
