We believe that innovative storytelling though the arts can lead to important, meaningful conversation of life and faith that can positively impact all of us. Working with Ballet 5:8 requires a great deal of dedication, passion and hard work, but it makes for a highly rewarding experience. Dancers and staff alike walk into Ballet 5:8 each day with not only a passion for the art of dance, but also with the excitement of a deeper purpose and a bigger vision for the work of the company.
Company Artist Positions
Ballet 5:8 Company Artists work for 25-30 weeks each season, receive a weekly stipend, and have access to daily technique class, weekly Pilates and Yoga, and Ballet 5:8's 12,000 square foot facility in Orland Park, IL in addition to attending rehearsals Monday-Friday. The work day during contracted weeks is typically 9:30am - 2:15pm. Company Artists perform with Ballet 5:8 up to 40 times each season around Chicago and across the U.S. on tour. Company Artists also have the opportunity to work with guest choreographers as they create new works commissioned for Ballet 5:8. Trainee Program Positions
Ballet 5:8's Trainee Program is a dynamic two-year experience that challenges aspiring professional dancers to put the finishing touches on their training while dancing alongside the Ballet 5:8 professional company. As Trainees, dancers take advantage of an intensive schedule of classes and performances opportunities within the Trainee Program, with Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts, and alongside the Ballet 5:8 Professional Company, both in Chicago and on tour. Open by audition only to dancers ages 18-24 with a solid background in classical ballet, the Trainee Program prepares promising students for careers with Ballet 5:8, with other professional dance companies, and in a range of dance-related fields.
The Marketing Director is responsible for driving the marketing behind Ballet 5:8’s performances, Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts, and development. The Marketing Director must be a visionary with the ability to implement well-defined marketing plans and strategies to grow and engage Ballet 5:8’s audiences, donors, and participants in the School of the Arts. The Marketing Director is also responsible for logistical aspects of Ballet 5:8 tours including managing schedules and accommodations, coordinating with local hosts, and building local launch teams for effective publicity distribution in each performing city. The Marketing Director also travels with Ballet 5:8 while on tour.
Costume Department Intern (Summer 2019)
The Ballet 5:8 Costume Internship position is a unique opportunity for students and individuals in the field of fashion/clothing/costuming who desire hands on experience in the field of costuming. The skills of ballet costume construction has become a dying art form with so many catalogs of pre-made costumes available these days! It is Ballet 5:8's mission to engage communities in conversation of life and faith through innovative storytelling and breathtaking dance. Our stories and performances are aided by well crafted, unique and innovative costumes. This internship will give a broad range of work experience and understanding of how an arts organization operates in this field of costuming as well as gain new skills in array of fine detail and fine craftsmanship specific to the needs of costuming dancers.
Development Intern (summer, ongoing)
The Ballet 5:8 Development Intern position is an opportunity for students majoring in arts management, nonprofit management, communications, or related fields to gain insight and practical experience in nonprofit development and event planning. Interns have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience and responsibilities pertaining to donor communications and engagement, donor database management, grant writing, and creative fundraising.
Administrative Intern (Summer 2019)
The Ballet 5:8 Administrative Intern position is an opportunity for students majoring in arts management, communications, marketing, dance, or related fields to gain insight and practical experience in the many aspects of a multifaceted professional dance organization. Ballet 5:8’s operations are managed by a small team of active, multi-skilled individuals who work across many disciplines. Interns have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience and responsibilities in customer relations, administration, marketing, basic graphic design and branding, development, retail, event planning, and team management.
Marketing & Communications Intern (Summer 2019)
The Ballet 5:8 Marketing & Communications Internship is an opportunity for students majoring in communications, marketing or arts management fields to gain insight and practical experience in the many aspects of a marketing and communications in a multifaceted professional dance organization. Interns have the opportunity to work directly with Ballet 5:8’s marketing and media teams as they plan for Ballet 5:8’s upcoming performing season.
