Four Emerging Choreographers | Four New Works
Dancers accepted to the exclusive, application-only Choreography Intensive participate in ballet, modern, composition, and improv classes with Ballet 5:8’s Summer Intensive throughout the week. Each choreographer will work closely with Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer, Julianna Rubio Slager, and Ballet 5:8 Summer Programs Faculty to create a concept, spatial design, and movement vocabulary for their original work.
Choreographers spend time with a team of dancers each day, working on their piece and refining the movement. There are nightly showings of the works-in-progress, culminating with a showcase of the final work at the end of the week. Choreographers receive individual and small-group mentoring and feedback throughout the process as they learn and refine choreographic skills, and hone their choreographic voice. Two choreographers will be chosen to show their work during the 5-Week Summer Program Performance at Lincoln-Way East High School.
“I love seeing the new voices that emerge from this program. Developing the next generation of choreographers takes time, intention and resources. We are committed to providing that, particularly to ALAANA and female choreographers.”
“The quality of the choreographers and of the work they bring to the program is extremely high every year. It's been a joy to work with each group.”
