Valerie Linsner on the Importance of New Work

What makes it meaningful for you to be part of a company that places a strong emphasis on creating new works?

Being involved in a company that consistently produces new works holds great significance to me. It not only pushes me as an artist but also as an individual, as we actively engage with the ever-evolving cultural landscape. The exhilaration of crafting art that has never been witnessed before is truly captivating. At 5:8, our deep passion lies in producing exquisite works that remain firmly rooted in truth, while avoiding clichés or stereotypes. Art has the power to stir emotions, and it is crucial for us to continuously bring a fresh voice to the arts community with each passing season.

How does it feel to perform in a work specifically created for you?

Oh, it's an absolute delight! Knowing that you are the first person entrusted with a particular role bestows a unique experience filled with responsibility and freedom. You bear the responsibility of embodying the choreographer's vision for the piece, offering your heart and skills to bring it to life. Simultaneously, you enjoy the freedom of not having to replicate anyone else's performance. This liberates me to fully immerse myself in the creative process without the pressure of comparison.

What sets the stories we convey at Ballet 5:8 apart?

The stories we convey at Ballet 5:8 encompass a universal appeal, intended for everyone regardless of their background—be it religious or non-religious, artsy or otherwise. Our narratives often venture beyond comfort zones. We frequently delve into unexplored territories, shedding light on subjects that remain untouched by others but demand attention. These stories illuminate the darkest corners of our existence and resonate deeply within us as human beings. They challenge, inspire, and motivate us to strive for positive change. Moreover, they remind us that we are not alone and encourage us to lend a voice to those who are voiceless. I am deeply passionate about our work and its profound impact.
