John Szwast

Company Artist
Men’s Program & Pre-Professional Program Faculty

John is a rising Company Artist with Ballet 5:8 whose grounded strength and quiet intensity have made him a compelling presence on stage and in the studio. Since joining the organization, he has originated lead roles in Celestia, Dreamer, Beyond the Nutcracker, BareFace, and Cinder Ella—each role showcasing his remarkable growth, musical sensitivity, and capacity for nuanced storytelling.

John began dancing at the age of 15, pursuing formal training after discovering a deep personal connection to the art form. Upon graduating high school, he joined Ballet 5:8’s Conservatory Program, where he trained intensively in both classical and contemporary technique. His work ethic and artistry quickly earned him a place in Ballet 5:8’s Second Company, where he gained invaluable performance experience and further honed his technical skills.

During his time as a student, John also served as a Teacher Assistant in the School of Ballet 5:8, where he began developing his passion for teaching. Now a full faculty member, he continues to mentor young dancers with insight, patience, and a deep understanding of the student journey.

As both an artist and educator, John brings intentionality and integrity to every aspect of his work. His story is a testament to what is possible when discipline, humility, and creativity intersect—and he remains committed to stewarding the next generation of artists while continuing to expand his own voice as a performer.
