Kayla Kowach is a vibrant and expressive Solo Artist with Ballet 5:8, known for her emotional intelligence, grounded stage presence, and commitment to work that moves both artist and audience. Her performances in works like Día de los Vivos, BareFace, and Beyond the Nutcracker have further established her as a deeply empathetic and versatile performer.

Originally from Waukegan, Illinois, Kayla began dancing at age three in her local park district and later trained under Stacy Joy Keller at Dancenter North. There, she performed leading classical roles such as Sugar Plum and Paquita, while gaining strong foundational training across multiple dance disciplines. Her development was further shaped by summer studies at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, Colorado Ballet, and Ballet 5:8, each experience contributing to her expansive movement vocabulary and her passion for continuous growth.

Kayla began her journey with Ballet 5:8 in 2020 as a member of the Trainee Program under the direction of Brette Benedict and Julianna Rubio Slager. Her dedication and artistic maturity quickly earned her advancement through the company’s ranks, culminating in her promotion to Solo Artist in 2023. She brings not only technical skill to her roles but also a sincere commitment to storytelling that reflects the heart of Ballet 5:8’s mission.

Offstage, Kayla serves as the Donor and Patron Relations Manager, where her thoughtful leadership and creative communication have transformed Ballet 5:8’s supporter engagement. She has brought innovation, energy, and personal connection to every facet of the donor experience. In addition, she is a valued faculty member at the School of Ballet 5:8, where she invests in the next generation of dancers with care, excellence, and clarity.

Kayla remains deeply grateful for the continued support of her family, which has been instrumental in her growth as both an artist and a leader. Her journey reflects a passion not only for performance but for community, mentorship, and the transformative power of the arts.
