Olivia Kruse | Season in Review

One of our Ballet 5:8 traditions at the end of each performance season is to ask the artists of the company to share some reflections with us. Getting to know the dancers and hearing about their journey is always a treat, and this year is no exception - even in a year turned upside down by a national pandemic! A special thank you to the artists of the company for sharing about their experiences in the 2019/20 Season.

Solo Artist, Olivia Kruse

Q. Pick one word to describe the overall season. Why?

A. Unexpected. Although this season was cut short unexpectedly, I gained so many valuable life lessons through it all. Being able to look back on the year as a whole, I'm reminded that a silver lining and inspiration can always be found.

Q. Can you share a favorite moment from on or offstage?

A. There's nothing like sharing the stage with my fellow dancers. We've become such a team over the years. We move as one, can sense each other by just a glance, and are united together to bring the music and story to life. Every time we're together - in rehearsal, on tour, and performing onstage, I make memories that I'll cherish forever.

Q. Of course choosing this is probably going to be hard, but out of the works you performed this season, does one stand out as the most meaningful or most notable for you personally? Why?

A. I loved getting to perform "Brothers & Sisters" this season. It's probably my favorite piece of rep from this season. This piece always leaves me feeling so free and joyful.

Q. Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?

A. I've been reminded this season to take things one day at a time. My coworkers also constantly inspire me, in and out of the studio.

Q. What was Quarantine like?

A. Quarantine reminded me to live with gratitude in my heart and to prioritize taking time to enjoy the little things in life.

Q. What are you up to this summer?

A. I'll be dancing, teaching, and spending some quality time with my family! I'm looking forward to getting outside and enjoying the sunshine :)
